Use comparable ongoing expense for the same service and mail use. Separate switching charges above from money already paid.

Example: when does a $50 switch pay back?

Hypothetical comparable ongoing expense: old $30/month, new $20/month; $50 total switching expense, no unused prepaid commitment. The $10/month difference recovers $50 after five paid months. At three months you remain $20 behind; at six months you are $10 ahead. This is an example, not a savings forecast or a provider quote.

  1. Activate the new account and authorizations before moving senders.
  2. Keep an overlap period for late-arriving mail where needed.
  3. Download old scans; changing a provider’s location may require a new account and forms.
  4. Budget old residual mail separately; a new subscription does not settle it.
  5. Close the old service after completing its notice and final instructions.

Separate the address handoff from the cancel button

A new address, saved scan and forwarding request each need their own confirmation. One first arrival does not prove every sender has changed.

A practical order; verify the selected provider’s actual deadlines

Publish the new addressActivation, accepted names and the exact issued street/PMB format; sender request, confirmation and first arrivalDo not publish a generic sample box number or silently reuse an old tariff after an operator moves.
Ask to cancelDownloaded files checked locally; wanted-original inventory; completed shipping/collection or written dispositionDashboard access and pending requests can end when cancellation is requested, before the nominal end date.
End overlapAccepted notice/effective date, renewal cutoff and residual-mail instruction/funding; remaining balance treatmentThe mailbox subscription, late-arriving mail and any separate office or registered-agent product are different obligations.
Two current closeout traps worth checking

Mailbox Forwarding’s terms end login and pending requests on termination; residual forwarding must be elected and funded. Anytime terms can make an account inactive when written cancellation arrives. Finish exports and physical requests first.

Stable’s terms default to no remailing after termination unless contrary written agreement is reached. LegalZoom’s current terms require direct sender updates and separately paid requested residual handling; older help describes a different access option. Get the applicable plan’s written closeout terms. This is not a guaranteed grace period or six months of free service.
